Our Story
In 1977, the Plano Parks and Recreation Department began construction on its first public tennis facility. Completed the following year, High Point Park Tennis Center debuted with seven tennis courts and a pro shop, with plans to add six more courts. Under the leadership of Ken Sumrow, High Point quickly became a hub for tennis enthusiasts, offering leagues, tournaments, and lessons. After an extraordinary 45‑plus‑year tenure, Ken retired at the end of 2025, and High Point is now under the leadership of Clint Sumrow as it continues its long tradition of community‑focused tennis and pickleball excellence.
High Point underwent a major renovation, completed in late 2020. The project introduced a new two-story, 8,000-square-foot pro shop, expanded parking, a center showcase court, and upgrades to all courts, nets, and fencing. Additionally, a playground now provides a fun space for the younger siblings of our junior players.
Our facility has become a cornerstone of tennis in Texas receiving significant recognition, most notably, the 2022 USTA Outstanding Tennis Facility Award and the 2022 USTA Texas Best of Texas Large Facility of the Year.
Our Services
Since 1978, High Point has established a reputation for excellence throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex. We offer 21 lighted outdoor tennis courts and eight combination Pickleball-QuickStart tennis courts. (USTA’s QuickStart Tennis program is designed for young players ages five to ten, introducing them to the game with smaller racquets, slower and lighter balls, shorter court dimensions, and modified scoring.)
Those interested in tennis can participate in group classes for youth, teens, and adults, as well as on-site leagues, workouts, mixers, and private lessons. Courts and ball machines are also available for rent. Multiple men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles teams call High Point their home for team competition organized by the Metroplex Tennis League, Tennis Competitors of Dallas, and USTA/Dallas Tennis Association.
Adults (18 and up) interested in pickleball can register for classes, attend a weekend “Intro to Pickleball” clinic, join an on-site adult league, participate in weekend “Paddle Battles,” book a court, or reserve a ball machine. Looking for private lessons? We can help! Our popular adult pickleball mixers are another great way to get out on the court.
Finally, our pro shop offers the latest in tennis racquet technology, pickleball paddles, stylish apparel, tennis shoes, bags, and stringing services.
