- Rules, Scoring and the Comen Tiebreaker
AGE REQUIREMENT: Players must be at least 18 years of age by the last day of league play.
SCORING: Use no-ad scoring — the first player/team to win 4 points wins the game. At deuce (3 points all), the receiver has the choice of receiving serve in the ad (right)t or deuce (left) court.
A Coman tiebreaker (see additional explanation below) is played if the players reach 6 games each in each in either the 1st or 2nd set (1st player to 7 points, win by 2) and for the 3rd set a 10 point tiebreaker is played in lieu of a full 3rd set (1st to 10 points, win by 2). In mixed doubles, man serves to the man, woman serves to the woman.
MATCH RESULTS: Winners reports scores and return balls to the pro shop. Fill out a green form at the league counter to report make-up match scores.
POINTS AWARDED: Match results are recorded as WIN (1 point) or LOSS (0 points), with no point differentiation between a 2-set and a 3-set match. Any match unplayed involving a reschedule, will be recorded as ‘0’ to the rescheduler and ‘1’ to the reschedulee. Any match unplayed as a result of factors other than a reschedule (bad weather, both opponents no-showing, etc) will be recorded as a 0-0 tie. Head to head results, then total games lost, will break final standing ties.
AWARDS: Gift certificates are the default awards for 1st and 2nd place winners.
COURT ETIQUETTE: All players are expected to show up on time for matches. During match play, if a point is under dispute, the person who received the ball, has final say. Civility is not an option! Complaints received by shop staff on poor personal conduct or racquet abuse, may result in a player’s suspension from future leagues.
Forfeit/Default
You forfeit your match by arriving more than 15 minutes past your schedule match time or by no-showing. You may ask your opponent(s) if they are willing to re-schedule. We encourage you to attempt to contact them and do so.
Re-Scheduling a Match
You may reschedule (1) match per league without penalty --only if your opponent agrees in advance. Please notify High Point and then arrange to make up your match as soon as possible . If your opponent does not agree to reschedule, you must either provide an appropriate sub (notify High Point in advance of the sub's name and phone number) or forfeit the match.
To be in the running for 1st or 2nd place, you must play ALL matches (including make-ups), reschedule no more than ONE match, and report all match results (including make-ups and forfeits) no later than the league make-up deadline.
Getting a Sub
There is a binder with names and contact information of players who are interested in filling-in for league players. If you need a sub, please call or stop by the pro shop. You are responsible for finding your own sub. When you have one, make sure to forward their information to your opponent(s) for the affected match. Call High Point and give the staff that information as well.
League Withdrawal
Before signing up for a league, please onsider carefully whether or not your other activities will conflict with your match schedule. If injury, illness, or family emergency does require you to withdraw from a league once play begins, notify High Point immediately. If you have a possible replacement for yourself in mind, please let us know that as well. Repeated no-shows, re-schedules, and/or excessive use of subs may bar a player from league play for one year.

How a Comen Tiebreaker Works
1st Point: Serve 1st point from Deuce (normal) side. (This person only serves once). Switch sides.
2nd and 3rd Point: Serve the 2nd point from the AD Side. Serve the 3rd point from the DEUCE side. Do NOT switch sides.
4th & 5th Poin:t Serve the 4th point from the AD Side. Serve the 5th point from the DEUCE side. Switch sides.
As you now see, other than the 1st point of the tiebreaker, the first serve on each side is from the AD side.
Switch sides of the court after every four points ----after the 5th, 9th, 13th, 17th points, etc.
TO DECIDE THE WINNER(S) OF A SET: Use a 7-point set tiebreak (1st to 7, win by 2) at 6-6 .
TO DECIDE THE WINNER(S) OF A MATCH: Use a 10-point match tie break (1st to 10 win by 2).
WHO SERVES FIRST? The player or team who would normally serve next in the rotation.
